Anyone interested in the history of the flute will
appreciate and enjoy this new recording from Michael
Graham Allen of Coyote Oldman. An accomplished and
well-respected flute maker, Allen has done painstaking
work to reproduce replicas of the ancient Anasazi
flutes from the people that populated the four corners
region of the southwest. The rainbird is a symbol
among many North American cultures with various names;
peyote bird, black darter, water crow, water turkey,
Anhinga and snake bird. It was believed to have
brought rain in the late summer and became a symbol of
hope and abundance. The deeply resonant pieces on the
recording are evocative and inspiring. The rebirth of
this beautiful instrument with its rich tones and
complex harmonics will amaze and delight the listener.
A second disc is enclosed with a video of the soaring
rainbird.
