Strangely enough there really aren't enough flute compilations available. Here's an unusual one from Red Feather Music produced by Gary Stroutsos. Many songs have other instruments added so this is in many ways a contemporary album. It has a great variety of artists starting off with Robert Mirabal's "Popay Runner." (actually this is a vocal but very moving and gentle) Mary Youngblood's "Yuba" flows seamlessly from this cut. Other artists include Jeff Ball, Andrew Vasquez, John Rainer, Jr. (a welcome addition from an under appreciated artist with a Sioux vocal chant), John Huling, Keith Bear, Joseph Fire Crow, Nakai and Kater, Gary Stroutsos and People of the Willows. All join in to preserve the essence and beauty of the Native American flute.
